Co-founder of THE DOCKS

Roberta Fuorvia is a curator specializing in contemporary photography. Her curatorial practice explores the relationship between images, visual culture, and narrative contexts, spanning exhibitions, education, and publishing.

Among the exhibitions she has curated are Il Real Albergo dei Poveri (MANN – Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli, 2023), Apice (Italian Cultural Institute, São Paulo, Brazil, 2019), In Your Place (Circulation(s) Festival, Paris, 2017), The Phone Book by R. Herman (LO.FT. Gallery, Lecce, 2015), and Il Giovane favoloso, featuring film stills from the homonymous film by Italian director Mario Martone (Recanati, 2015), commissioned by the Municipality of Recanati. She has also collaborated as curator for the Photography Section of the Mondi Lontani Film Festival, held at Cinema Modernissimo in Naples.

Since 2016, she has been teaching project development and critical methodologies applied to students’ personal photographic projects at the CFI – Centro di Fotografia Indipendente in Naples.

In 2018, she initiated a research project focused on iconic photographs of the twentieth century, developed through a cycle of lectures. This research later led to her first book, Behind the Icons (Martin Eden Edizioni, 2024), an essay dedicated to the historical photograph Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima by Joe Rosenthal. In 2025, the book was selected by the Campania Pavilion among the titles representing the region at the 27th edition of the Turin International Book Fair, when Campania was the Guest Region of Honour.

In 2024, she co-curated the exhibition Ultras Youth. Our Body is Ours with Michela Fabbrocino, hosted by the Fondazione Valenzi at the Maschio Angioino in Naples. The exhibition presented her long-term research on ultras culture, focusing on the presence and visibility of women within a space historically dominated by male narratives, and explored how youth subcultures construct identity, community, and self-representation.

She is a co-founder of THE DOCKS, an association dedicated to promoting photographic events as well as educational and editorial projects. Within THE DOCKS, she co-founded THE DOCKS PUBLISHING, an independent publishing imprint specialized in photographic fanzines, through which she curates publications as editorial project curator. Several of these publications have received national and international awards and have been realized through international collaborations.

Since 2020, she has been the curator of the international photography award Passepartout Photo Prize. In 2023, she began collaborating as an iconographic researcher with the Natural History Museum of Oman in Muscat (Sultanate of Oman).
