In Tamale in the north of Ghana, far from the national capital Accra, Ibrahim Mahama has built a series of art initiatives that have young people and education as their focus. A fleet of decommissioned airplanes have been transformed into classrooms for teaching art and technology at Red Clay studio, his education and residency facility that also features an architectural installation and gathering space called the Parliament of Ghosts. Savannah Centre for Contemporary Art and Silo museum and ecology centre also welcome the continuous flow of groups of school children bussed from far rural areas that have otherwise little or no access to contemporary art. A full art school program is also in development. For Mahama, art offers a sense of the possibility of re-enlivening the dreams of social transformation inhabiting the ruins of the modern period to imagine futures for art and community beyond individualistic models. He will be in discussion with Kathryn Weir, with whom he has been in dialogue about the Parliament of Ghosts project since a residency in Naples in 2020.

The Agorà will be in English language.
