The classroom is an art and education center that has been operating on a nomadic basis since 2016. We believe that “every man is a school” and we work on alternative educational models encouraging individual production of methodologies and narratives in Arts histories. the classroom inaugurated its program in April 2016 with a class run by Adelita Husni-Bey (Italy and Lybia, 1985, lives and works in New York) hosted in a former school building which from 1972 to 2011 housed one of the Children’s Homes – Montessori School for children in Milan. The project developed with a course seminar, an artist’s lecture and a public exhibition was conceived and directed by the artist in collaboration with Bocconi University and the Milan Triennale.
The invitation to the artist to take part in the project was promoted by the nature of Husni-Bey’s work itself, based on research on radical pedagogy and the relationship between art and educational practices. The artist has been stimulated to organize a selection of videos, drawings, photographs and sculptural elements specially created as aids for the classroom work with students, in the space of the exhibition and in the seminar room.
