The ATOMIUM as a prism for EMPATHIC mediation, with Laure Goemans, from WIELS Contemporary Art Center

Laure Goemans is the mediator at WIELS Contemporary art center in Brussels. This session will think through the role of this institution, based in a popular neighborhood and running several co-creative programs indoors, but also turned towards the local community and public spaces. As a starting point is presented the Atomium, as a common figure illustrating tensegrity. Through WIELS mediation programs Laure Goemans relies her practice on this same structural principle where each element – visitors, children, curators, mediation team – is equally important to the equilibrium of the whole. She will think of the role and impact of strength di differences in these collaboratively taken decisions within the institution, how to work around them, practically, but also through the prism of sensibility and empathy.
